Classroom Response Tool: Pear Deck & Google Slides

Want a quick way to do formative assessments? Want to get your students more involved in your lessons? Try the Pear Deck Add-on for Google Slides.

With this Add-On, you add in interactive slides into a Google Slides presentation. When you present with Pear Deck, your Google Slides presentation is displayed on the students Chromebooks and/or phones. As you advance through the presentation, it advances on their devices (they are not allowed to go ahead). When an interactive slide is displayed, the students interact by typing or drawing an answer. Student answer can then be displayed on the classroom projector and/or saved for viewing by the teacher later.

Here is a great video that walks you through how to create a Pear Deck presentation.

Ways to Use This Tool In Your Classroom
  • Use the interactive slides to do a formative check every couple of slides throughout your presentation
  • Use the interactive slides to give every student a chance to "talk" in your classroom.
  • Create an Google Slides presentation that is all Pear Deck slides that reviews material covered on a previous day
  • Pear Deck slides can be set to be student paced. This means that the students can work through it on their own and then you can go back and review answers. This is great if you are going to be absent from the classroom. Post the Pear Deck to classroom and have students work through it on their own. You can then review answers when you come back and can review any topics that students did not get on their own.
