Wonderopolis

Wonderopolis is a fantastic website that allows students to wonder about a variety of topics.

The Wonder Ground is a part of the website that is created specifically for teachers.  There are search able lesson plans using Wonderopolis and other classroom resources/ideas.

Why Is This A Great Tool

There are several resources about a topic all in one place.  There are videos, written text, a dictionary, quizzes, and links to even more information.  It is all in one place.  No more going to several different sites during one lesson.

The topics are also unending.  There are wonders for every subject and student interest imaginable.  What a great tool for students to investigate anything they are wondering about.

Ways to Use It In Your Classroom

  • A bell ringer/hook - have one displayed as students walk into the classroom.  Give students a time to go through the wonder individually or go through it as a class to hook/engage students in the classroom topic for that day
  • Writing prompts - have students pick a wonder related to what you are discussing in class and practice their writing skills by explaining the wonder to you or other classmates through writing
  • Wonder Time - give students a brain break once a week or so and allow them to explore any wonder they choose.  Maybe you have them journal about the wonder or use it as a starting point to create a presentation about something they are interested in that is later shared with other students
