Google Tour Builder is a fun way for students use Google Maps to share their learning about a certain city, state, country, time period, path of a book character, and so much more! Here is an example Google Tour about the War For Independence.
How it Works
After you log-in, you start by clicking "Create New Tour." Give your tour a name and then you can start adding in places along your tour. You will build your tour using the outline on the left of the screen. Find your first stop on the map and then click "Add Location." You will drop a placemark on your the map and then add information about this stop such as a name, photos, videos, and any additional information you would like to share about this stop. Continue this process until you have built your entire tour.
When your tour is complete, you will click "Done Editing." You can then choose to Share your tour just like you do any other Google Doc.
Classroom Ideas
- Share landmarks or neat things in a certain state, city, or country
- Map out the battles of a war
- Map out the travels of a book character
- Identify world events during a certain time period
- Give biographical information about famous scientists, place a mark on their hometown
Not only could you have students create them, but what a fun way to introduce students to a new topic as well by creating one yourself for the students to view. Another idea - have your students go on a tour next time you have a sub. There is a gallery of already created tours that your students could complete.
