According to wikipedia "A flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom."
Tech Tools for Creating a Flipped Classroom
Creating/Finding Lesson Resources
The first step is to start curating the resources you are going to use to build your lessons. These could be lessons that are already online through a resource such as Khan Academy or PBS Learning Media.
These could also be resources that you create yourself. You could create short videos of yourself teaching a concept. I shared some video creation tools in a blog post - Tools for Sharing Videos with Students. Here are some more free video creation tools:
Other resources include how students will demonstrate their learning to you and/or collaborate with classmates. These resources could be:
- Google Forms
- Google Docs
- Padlets
- Student Created Videos
- Worksheets they will be completing in class once they have video the online content
Sharing Lessons with Students
You are going to need some where to store/share your flipped lessons. Google Classroom is a great place to do this. You could also use a Google Site.
Group all lesson resources together and in the order a student should complete them. Even if there is something that a student needs to complete, but does not have a technological component, list it so students know exactly what they need to complete and when.
