Screencasting Tools

Why create a screencast?

A screencast is a video recording of what is happening on your computer.  You might want to create a screencast to record common procedures, give students visual feedback, record lessons for students to re-watch for additional support, record lessons for when you will be gone...the list could go on and on.

Tips for Creating a Screencast

  1. Plan your video. Create at least a basic outline of what information you want to make sure you include in your video.
  2. Rehearse. Go through the video at least once before actually recording it.
  3. Set a Time Limit. Videos should not be longer than 5 minutes. Most students will not listen to anything over that 5 minute mark.
  4. Don't over edit your video. If you try to get out every um and er, you might be working on your video forever. Try to keep your videos informal. If you make a few mistakes it is ok!
