Google Earth Timelapse is a Google Earth Engine that takes satellite images from a time span and turns them into video showing how parts of the Earth have changed over time.
You can pick almost anywhere in the world to watch time lapsed video or you can pick some key areas already designated by Google such as:
- Columbia Glacier Retreat in Alaska
- Deforestation in Brazil
- Meandering Rivers
- Urban Growth
Ideas for Use in the Classroom
- Show time lapse of a certain city/country that you will be studying to build interest
- Use time lapse to bring to life glaciers melting and the consequences of deforestation
- Watch as cities are built along major water ways. Discuss why this is.
