Google Classroom over the past year has had many updates. You can now determine what students see the "Stream" of the first page they see when they go to your Google Classroom.
Next scroll down down and look for the "General" section.
Change Your Settings
To find your settings, open up the Google Classroom and click the gear in the upper right corner.
If you click on the drop down to the right of "Classwork on the stream" you will see that you have several options:
Show attachments and details
This will show what is posted on the Classwork page and allow students to open up any attachments associated with those posts. Students will rarely need to actually go to the Classwork page.
Show condensed notifications
This will show what is posted on the Classwork page, but students will have to click on the post and go to the Classwork page to open any attachments.
Hide notifications
No classwork with appear on the Stream. Students will have to go to the Classwork page to see this information. This is great if you want to keep the Stream for announcements only.
