Google Slides - Interactive Lessons

Google Slides can be shared with students through Google Classroom just like a Google Doc can. Here are some interactive lessons using Google Slides that I use in my own classroom.
Here are five ideas of how to use Google Slides to create an interactive lesson for your students:

1. Use shapes and diagrams to create drag & drop activities
Create an activity that has students sorting images, classifying items, or matching vocab words with definitions.

2. Insert videos for students to watch
One of the options in the Insert menu is video.  You can find a YouTube video for your students to watch, insert it on a Google Slide and have reflection questions on the next slide.  You can even customize the video start and end time if you only want them to view a certain part of the video.

3. Interactive slides during a lesson
With the use of an Add-on called Pear Deck, a Google Slides presentation is shared onto student Chromebooks and made interactive for quick formative checks as you are teaching a lesson.

4. Vocabulary review
Have the students create vocabulary flash cards.  The vocab word on one slide and the definition or a picture of the word on the next slide.  Students could also add a slide applying the word to the overall topic in class.  For example if the word was Entrepreneur, the students could define it and then find a picture of a real-life entrepreneur.

5. Learning menus or choice boards
The first slide is a menu of some sort containing activities that students can complete related to a particular topic.  Each menu item links to another slide in the document or to an outside source. Kasey Bell at Shake Up Learning gives some great examples and provides free templates that use Google Slides as interactive learning menus.
