Increase Productivity: Using Google Search

Most people use Google Search on a daily basis.  Here are some tips and/or new ways to use Google Search to be more productive.

1. Timer
Need a 3 minute timer.  Search "3 minute timer" and a timer will start counting down automatically.

2. Calculator
Enter an equation in the search box and it will calculate the answer for you.

3. Specific Phrases
Use quote marks ( " ) to search for a specific phrase.  Your search results will include only sources with that entire phrase, not just part of it.  For example,  "Green Bay Packers" will include only sources that talk about the Green Bay Packers, not Green Bay

4. Exclude Words
To remove certain words from your search, place a minus sign ( - ) before the word.  For example, if you are looking for information about the city of Green Bay, you could enter in the search box Green Bay -Packers to exclude any sources that talk about the Green Bay Packers.

5. Types of Files
If you are looking for a specific file type, say a pdf, enter that requirement after the search topic.  For example, if you were looking for a USA map as a pdf, you could enter in the search box USA map filetype:pdf.
